In 1950, Stefan and Maria Leitner took over a 394 m² plot of land from their parents, and with it, a dream. Construction of a small guesthouse began, and on 1 July 1951, the café opened its doors. Guests came, stayed, spread the word – and with each passing year, the guesthouse grew a little more. A few rooms soon became 28 beds, and an idea became an integral part of Fuschl.
In 1986, Petra Herbst, the founders' niece, joined the family business. Two years later, Franz Josef Vogl followed, first as a partner, then as her husband. In 1992, the couple took over the Sporthotel Leitner and lovingly redesigned it. On 20 April 1995, the new Hotel Schützenhof opened on Lake Fuschl. For over 30 years, Petra and Franz Vogl ran the hotel with heart, dedication and a flair for hospitality that kept many regular guests coming back again and again.
In 2017, their son Franz-Dominik joined his parents Franz and Petra's business. In 2023, his wife Denise became part of the family business. Together as a family – with a lot of heart, experience and new ideas – the decision matured to create something new from the tried and tested: Vogl's Nest. Two generations, one vision – and the firm determination to create a place where guests feel at home.

In June 2026, Vogl's Nest will open its doors as a modern hotel in Fuschl am See that combines tradition with contemporary style.
